Jim Dawson (deceased)
Jim Dawson has been drawing and painting since he was a teenager. He studied landscape painting at the Creative Workshop of the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester and earned a B.A. degree from Empire State College SUNY, while working as a Field Engineer for Frontier Telephone Co.
Jim conducted evening Adult Education Art classes at Webster and Irondequoit High Schools, exhibited at the MAG Clothesline Show and the Naples, Canandaigua and Corn Hill Art Festivals in the Rochester area. He currently works in transparent watercolor, watercolor pencil and acrylics. He favors landscapes, seascapes and urban scenes where he can use his early drafting skills to advantage. Jim gets much of his inspiration from travels in the western states and Canada. Recent trips to the Northwest, Vancouver Island, Oregon, and the Canadian Rockies have supplied him with a lifetime of material. Using his photo materials, he creates his own interpretation of the scenes. This involves preliminary value studies in pencil, and at times cropping the images with a Photoshop type program, that leads to larger works in watercolor or acrylic. |
